The Blog of Team 2164 The Corps!
Design Process

January 12, 2011

Well we've been snowed out for the past few days so we haven't been able to get much done but now that the roads are starting to clear up and we've been able to move safer we have finally begun truly designing! Team 2164 is pumped about the Logomotion challenge and we are so far having a positive outcome in the design stages. The web site is about halfway done at this point and should be up a week or two after this post I hope!

Web site

January 17, 2011

The web site is live! It was earlier than a week as I figured it out early today. Now I'll be working on getting the bugs and kinks out of the site for a bit as well as updating the blog, recent news, pics, and everything else. I hope everybody enjoys the new web site! Our old web site was made in iWeb and didn't allow for constraints so the entire site was huge and you had to scroll to the right or left to view everything. This new site is built however, completely in Dreamweaver so it should look much nicer and you won't have to scroll to the left and right anymore. Some future plans for the web site are a massive amount of videos added as well as an Mp3 player which will be playing a play list made entirely in Garage Band by our Master of Orchestral Productions, Brian.

Building Stage

January 18, 2011

Week two has begun! While it's currently a little hard to get pictures at this moment they should hopefully be coming in sometime soon. This week will be mostly composed of finishing up the design stage and ordering parts. Hopefully if both of these come quick enough we can also begin building as well! Web site wise I've been trying to work out all the little bugs and kinks in the site as well as validating it through the W3 validation service.

It didn't work out well

January 24, 2011

The Apparatus Team has hit a bump in development for that our pneumatic system that we tried to make a vacuum but the pressure around the ubertube. The suction cup, wouldn't hold the vacuum. but on the upside we had a part for the pneumatics that held 3/4ths a vacuum which from our mentor George "That's a good vacuum!" though sadly it didn't hold the vacuum. Now we are back into designing a claw that has wheels to roll in the the ubertubes, the ubertubes are in the shapes of square, triangle and a circle/ring. hopefully we can build and demo it before the week is over.

Minibot

January 27, 2011

We have a Robotics class, and in that task since starting kick-off is to build the mini bot for our competitions. Not knowing where to start, or how to start the design process, we brainstormed some possible ideas that could be come up with. Some of our ideas included both the impossible and the logical. From the logical stand point, we composed a robot that had wheels attached to two pieces of tetrix frame. The wheels were facing each other allowing it to climb up the pole with ease. Finding that the robot couldn't stick to the pole without support, we attached a magnet to the inside of the robot so that the magnet attached to the pole allowing more support to climbing the pole. After testing it out several time, the mini bot climbed up the pole in about 8 seconds. Seeing as this designed worked, another group in the Robotics class took the idea and modified it. Allowing only a series of limit switches, tetrix DC motors, and wheels, the mini bot climbed the pole in a record breaking 3.3 seconds. We still have yet to come up with multiple designs to see which mini bot will work for our competitions.

Snowmageddon

February 7, 2011

It's been awhile since there's been an update here but not much has been able to happen. As many teams will know, especially those in the central U.S., there was a terrible blizzard. Many were affected by it and our team is no exception! When it started we missed two full days and the third day was if you could get to robotics safely. Due to the weather this year 2164 has been going seemingly slow. We do however, have a rolling chassis which was working great. Our minibots are also nearing completion and if you've been to the pictures section and looking at the weekly picture updates that show what's been happening for each week, you may notice that some images involving the minibot anywhere in it have had the minibot blurred out. This was Coach Sharp's decision on the minibot and hopefully everyone will get to see our minibot(s) in the near future! The Robots page is still under construction but soon it should have some sort of content. It would have the T-Shirt cannon up but due to time and now weather we have no action shots of the cannon. This should be up and running sometime soon however. I will also be adding our main robot to the robots page soon and when that happens we will have a site fully complete that just needs the standard tweaks and regular updates. Some of the latest editions have been those of the Mp3 player on the homepage that features 7 songs by our Master of Orchestral Productions: Brian. Brian is working on new songs all the time and will have out a few more soon enough as well as helping with pictures for the web site. Despite the snow the web site is almost fully functional as well as our bot that is progressing so much with each and every day.
