Logomotion!

The 2011 game is called Logomotion and is celebrating 20 years of FIRST with a special twist to the game. The game is played on a 27 by 54-foot, carpeted, rectangular field. There are two alliances, the Red Alliance and the Blue Alliance. On each alliance there are 3 teams. The robot's objective this year is to grab different shaped tubes and place them on the pegs on the according teams wall. To get these tubes the robot may either pick up tubes off the ground or go to the opposite alliances feeding station and take a tube from there. The pegs are situated at a low, medium, and high level. The low level peg is worth 1 point for each tube, the middle 2 points, and the highest, 3 points. At the beginning of the game there is an autonomous mode in which the robots are given a yellow "ubertube" which the robot may place on any peg. The ubertube automatically makes all tubes on top of it double points. If a bot creates the FIRST logo out of the tubes, that entire row is also automatically doubled in point value. On the floor there is tape to help the drivers and bots find the pegs. On the pegs there are reflective surfaces as well to help each bot find it's way. On the field there are four towers. When 15 seconds are left in the match the four towers will begin blinking at their bases. When 10 seconds are left all the towers will go to a solid light indicating that a robot may now release it's "minbot" which is now in a race to the top. The minibot that reaches the top first gives it's alliance 30 points, 20 points for the second place bot, 15 for third place, and 10 points for fourth place. These minibots will be crucial in the end game scoring so don't leave them out!

Breakaway!

The 2009-2010 FRC Competition was called Breakaway, a challenge in which the robot's objective is to move a size 5 soccer ball and shoot it into a goal by means of kicking, pushing, or whatever the team can think of. There are two teams of three robots (also called alliances) and the alliances work together to score as many points as they can in two minutes a fifteen seconds, which is divided into a 15 second autonomous mode where the robot controls itself with pre-written code, and the last 2 minutes where the drive team controls the bot, There are two bumps and tunnels that separate the field into three 18' areas. The bump is 13.5 inches tall and three feet wide, and slants at a 45 degree angle which poses a challenge for a bot to go over. The other obstacle, the tunnel, is only 18 inches tall and 36 inches wide and poses and challenge as it limits a bot on its size severely. At the end of the game there is a time where the bots are to hang on a tower structure and will receive bonus points whenever they score a goal hanging from it. Whichever team scores the most points will be declared the winners at the end of the game.
