The Idea of FIRST
  1. 2001-03 Mr. Kohl was in graduate school at Pittsburgh State University in Pittsburgh, Kansas majoring in Technology Education. Mr. Kohl found an article about FIRST robotics and used that for his assignment.  This article planted a seed in his mind about starting a robotics team when he began teaching.
  2. By the end 2005-2006 school year, math teacher Mr. Sharp agreed to jump onboard the robotics team.  The following are a few highlights for the years that followed.
  1. Fast-forward three years to spring 2006 in Harrisonville, Missouri.  Mr. Kohl is in his third year as the technology teacher at Harrisonville High School.  He takes his Technology Student Association club to the Dream It Do It Expo at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Missouri.  A group of Kansas City Metro high schools demonstrate their FIRST robots and provide information of how other high schools can get involved in the organization.  After the demonstration, Mr. Kohl asks his students about their interest.  Students show great interest and Mr. Kohl invites Ms. Beverly White, regional director to FIRST, to come to Harrisonville High School to present FIRST Robotics to the administration, parents, and students.
